I think Metal as a subculture (if you want to call it that) age well compared to many other. Natrually, growing up means that you change in many ways, but from the people I know, heavy metal is a lifetime commitment.

Totally agree. It is more than our religion, it’s the only way to live. Anyway, everybody gets older, has kids, dresses differently…but if you are a real metalhead, it will always stay a part of you, cause it is rooted deep in your heart. I live metal, I play metal, I stay metal.

It’s cool Stampfer, no big deal. It’s just something about Sonny that tells me he would have been kick a## as Conan, but he is to old and fat now. I was watching the behind the scenes on my extended version DVD of Predator and the director said, he had to hire a body guard to follow Sonny around the set so Sonny didn’t beat the crap out of the cast or crew. That’s way cool!

In some kind of alternate universe where sonny landham is young again and more muscular, he would have been a good conan. He had the face and presence and manliness for it.

@ Big V: My response was perhaps a little bit harsh, which wasnâ€™t my intention. Your idea of casting Sonny Landham as Conan sets a funny and cartoon-like picture of desperate marketing experts in my mind (sort of my day-dreaming). This choice would duplicate the problems that the film-makers now have, I suppose. Thatâ€™s all.
Landham was part of a great cast in the original Predator movie. Youâ€™re right with the hint that Stallone has successfully survived his â€œItalian Stallionâ€-Days and I want to add that Arnold Schwarzeneggerâ€™s career didnâ€™t suffer damage although he was the object of some artistic photography in his early years of Bodybuilding

@ Stampfer, I am not new to this Conan blog and I do know that there has been countless discussions of Momoa’s acceptability as conan. I got my crazy idea of Sonny as Conan because IMO Sonny in his younger day, looked more like Conan then Momoa does now. It’s all good Stampfer, I know it will never happen, I was just day-dreaming. Oh and you can’t say Sonny would not have been well received because of adult films he was in. The first movie or movie’s Sly Stalone did were explicit adult films.

Ian, no I can’t imagine them shelving it. I can’t imagine it going straight to dvd either. Solomon Kane was around 40 million but I think a big part of the reason it was released in theaters in europe but not america is that it was a european movie. This is an american, hollywood movie and american theaters are a pipeline for american movies. Even with a drop in budget I still think it is way too big to go straight to dvd. Also remember it has built in name recognition. Some people will go see it just because they remember the Conan movie from 25 or 30 years ago.

The sequel might be straight to dvd.

Stampfer: I can’t imagine that either.

m: It does make a ‘little’ sense and I’m emphasizing ‘little’ that they are holding out on promoting the movie. I believe Thor is set to release in May 2011, Captain America in July 2011 and Conan August 2011. We’ll just have to wait and see…but I do think this is the reason why we are not hearing much about it right now. Timing plays a huge roll in this.

@at ray if it is being released next year, it does make a little sense, but so are thor and captain america right? although it think those movies may aim at a younger audience based on the pg-13 rating

@ Big V: There were countless discussions about Jason Momoaâ€™s acceptability as Conan because of his exotic looks, although heâ€™s not only of native hawaiian/american ancestry, but also german and irish.
For this reason: How the hell did you come up with the idea of an native american actor (descendant of Cherokees and Seminoles) named Sonny as Conan, who has made very very explicit adult entertainment movies at the beginning of his career and who was in his most famous movie a sidekick of Arnold Schwarzenegger? This would be a very hard challenge for a Conan-movieâ€™s marketing department
Based on Sonny Landhamâ€™s look and descent he could have been a fine Turok, Son of Stone in his younger years, but this might be clichÃ©-thinking.

@ Ray: Ron Perlman was at this year’s San Diego Comic Con to promote other productions. I can’t imagine that the actor wasn’t asked about Conan, but I don’t know any statements from him or further information about a possible Q&A.

One of the reasons it ‘may’ have not been introduced at this year’s Comic Con is because they are waiting to promote it for next year when it will be more effective based on the release date I heard they were going to release it on. If they are planning on releasing it in Aug. ’11, it would make more sense to promote it next year. It may go straight to DVD but I believe it’s more of a marketing strategy based on the ‘rumored’ release date. I definitely believe they are dragging the butts and should be releasing some more photos than what they are currently!
