Rumours abound on Conan Movie casting – Rose McGowan and Stephen Lang

The rumours about the upcoming Conan movie are going wild again. According to a source, that has been correct to often, to not believe it, Rose McGowan is going to play a yet unknown character called Marique in the Conan Movie. That name isn’t mentioned on the casting call, so we assume it’s a new character that was created in the process of rewriting the script. Another interesting information about Stephen Lang’s casting. He was offered the role some days ago and has now supposedly accepted it. Now the really interesting part is that the name of his character (Khalar Singh zhe evilz wizardz) is going to be changed.

I must say, that a seed, a glimmer of hope has been evoked by this little hint. Maybe more than just his characters name has been changed in the process of rewriting the script. We can only hope, that the magical hands of Andrew Lobel and Sean Hood have changed the script for the better and the characters name change is only a hint at greater things to come. Let’s wait and see what he future brings.

Update

The source confirmed, that the character Marique has been a male character before and here is his former casting description

He’s in his 20s to early 30s, Asian or Middle Eastern, open to all ethnicities, slight of frame, piercing eyes, cruel, determined to prove to his father that he can rule the world when the time comes. But he has the mentality of a proto-goth rocker, so ruling the world will prove elusive. However, Fariq makes up for his lack of battle skills with his deft understanding of sorcery and evil determination to find the real queen of Acheron. SUPPORTING

So the proto-goth rocker is now a proto-goth chick :D I am not entirely sure that instills much hope. It rather sounds like some heavy potential for “hot evil girl monologue”, at least if the script continues down the road Doppenheimers started it. It’ll be interesting to see how they utilize the new possibilities of another female antagonist, played by such a charismatic female performer.

So this fact would rule Rose out for being cast for the new Red Sonja movie?

Sandahl Bergman was offered the original “Red Sonja” role back in ’84 but turned it down to play the villainess instead. That after being Valeria in “Conan the barbarian”,so its not likely to make much of a difference.Too, both Sonja and Conan are owned by different properties;the former character is not officialy recognized in her Hyborian incarnation as being Howard’s creation. That was the idea of Roy Thomas for Marvel Comics…Damn, I must be turning into a fan-boy.

Is that how they are writing the script?Describing the characters as “proto-goth rockers”?!What the hell?
Know o’ prince there was a surfs up dude who roamethed the downtown hoods of Zamora where the babes were hot and his name was Conan,a thief,a reiver with folded t-shirts in hand…

I see your point, Steve, thanks. In addition to this, according to MTV Stephen Lang has just been confirmed as Khalar Singh. Good news, I’d dare to say but, knowing that the principal photography starts on March 15, what about the rest of the cast?

As long as there’s no goth soundtrack to the film…speaking of which any word on how the music is being handled.even those who dislike the original can’t deny the power of basil poledouris’ score…proto-goth rocker…BAH!!!…they are getting hot chicks in this though.

Yeah that’s the angle! No matter how bad this all turns out, if they throw in some hot women, people will come to watch! Especially if they are scantily clad! Everyone knows how hot it gets in Bulgaria :)

Doubt Rose McGowan will be in Conan. She is supposedly injured from making the Red Sonja movie, which is put on hold due to her injury. And, what would her role in Conan be if she is shooting Red Sonja?

Sadly she doesn’t answer on her twitter, so we only have the rumour from “a reliable source” we have to go by. So far the source has always been SPOT on, when it came to casting rumours, that’s why i trusted it this time and went for it.

It would be great if they cast Rose for this crap. Then we can hope for new real Red Sonja and my pick would be Christina Hendricks of course.

    @Stefan
Sure a “womenly” lady, though I have to say a bit on the squishy side for a real fighter girl. She would need to hit the gymn real hard and it’s questionable if her round curves would not vanish together with the rest of her body-fat.

Bah! Enough talk about womanly stuff.Who else wagers that the musical score for this celluloid epic will be performed by some has been “nu-metal” band(see what I did there?).Basil Poledouris really did his craft proud when he wrote the original soundtrack.Epic, stirring stuff.I don’t think the movie would have been half as good without it,it played that much of a role.Music doesn’t generally play that much of a part in action/fantasy movies anymore.

Rose McGowan (or Christina Hendricks) would be great in Hyboria, like something out of a Franzetta illustration. Who wants to see a real fighter woman? That was probably the idea with Grace Jones and Sandahl Bergman, the end result being…..flat women.

The worst part about the Kull movie to me was the music. Fantasy and historical epic movies need a classical score. Gladiator did a great job with that. Of course Gladiator had a bigger budget and Ridley Scott. I am guessing since these people don’t give a damn about making a good movie and enjoy alienating the fans, we will wind up with the first fantasy movie to have a rap soundtrack.

yeah I caught it thats funny.please no nu metal, anything of the sort.I did think the score to lord of the rings was very good, (and love it or no can’t deny the star wars score or anything john williams has done in film) but i dont think anything in the genre comes close to the original conan score, and its for the reason steve states, itactually helps tell the story.
actually we havent heard much at all about the soundtrack , have we?

you know , when you think about it, most everything except some recent stuff thats come out about this flick is overwhelmingly bad… but if they run with this nu-metal/rap/ pop music bit , thats it, thats really gonna be the straw that breaks this camels back, and where I may have considered catching a matinee showing, I’ll freaking boycott this thing.I think Poledouris is still among the living , tap his talents to do a score, or this harry gregson williams does alot of stuff and he’s not bad .
