Rachel Nichols confirmed to play Conan’s love interest

Rumour has it, that Rachel Nichols (G.I. Joe, Star Trek) is going to be Tamara, Conan’s love interest in the upcoming Conan Movie. Since there haven’t been many official announcements about the casting, we have to go by the rumours flying around and see what we make of it.

Here is the casting description for Tamara:

She is 18 to 24 years old, Caucasian or Middle Eastern, open to all ethnicities; beautiful, studious, correct, a novitiate of a Greek influenced monastery. A master of martial arts, she has been trained to be the Queen’s servant, bodyguard and best friend. She and many other female bodyguards to the queen have been in hiding most of their lives because of the curse of Acheron, which would take the queen’s life to bring almost immortal power to its king. When Khalar Singh, a powerful warlord with ambitions to become the king of Acheron, storms the monastery and captures all of the novitiates, she is separated from Ilira, the one she must protect. With all of her strength and will, Tamara is determined to find and rescue her. She finds herself in league with Conan because of a mutual need to find Khalar Singh. She is not in the least intimidated by Conan’s size or grim demeanor and their alliance eventually blossoms into something that surprises them both… LEAD

Rachel Nichols certainly is a very beautiful woman. I recently rewatched G.I. Joe and I think she has the physicality that is needed for her role and the acting talent, to fill out the wide variety of emotions her character will go through.

UPDATE

Rachel Nichols officially confirmed that she is cast as Tamara.

    Well… I guess I have at least one reason to see this movie;) Really though,I can see her for the role! Salma Hayek would have been a more appropriate actress in my opinion but she’ll do! I would have loved a script that called for Belit! Who knows, as many times as this thing has been rewritten, there may be before it’s all said and done:)

    Salma Hayek as Belit?With Robert Rodriguez directing?Now THAT would be cool…oh well back to reading the Solomon Kane novelization which too is uncannily un-Howard in its set up.

    @Donald
    So far he only got the OFFER to play the role. I am not yet sure that is not only a scam to get Conan into mass media riding on the Avatar wave of fame. I’ll be waiting until someone confirms he actually signed.

    What happened with Dolph Lundgren? He will be not Conan´s father, he will be not the pirate captain, he will be not the main villain… at least i hoped to see him as the girl!

    Wow could this get any worse?! In all of Howards novels there were only two woman not intimadated by Conan…before they fell for him. Now we just need the side kick for comedy…this has nothing to do with howard’s vision. This sound WAY too much like the T.V. show. God you have to be kidding me…martial arts?! Holy crap this is turning into a heap of junk. I have no problem with Momoa as Conan I actually like it…but so far the rest (except Sapp) is a total joke. You are kill anyone’s interest that is a fan of the source….its a way better vision that what YOU ae developing. When you tank your 100 million waste of cash I’ll be laughing…And sad you screwed this GREAT character up. Here’s to Howard rolling in his grave…Great job!

    By Crom,dudes!Will there be any dwarves in this movie? Can Conan have a jester sidekick to lighten the mood drenched atmosphere of this somber plot?

    ” you see dis voman here…. valeria iz like her… she doesn’t look like her but she has de same spirit , de same de same…. ” “strength” “strength” ” if you’re going to fight, learn with a real weapon, not vit a toothpick!!”

    ugh the t.v show , what was that like ten whole episodes? what scares me is that this movie won’t bomb( as it likely deserves to) because all the people who don’t know conan but like movies like lotr or gladiator 300 will go and see. i’ve actually read somewhere that most of nispels movies have turned a profit. ” the horn is his strength !” ” tear out the horn!!!”

    “Taramis planned it all from the beginning…” Conan got the horn then.Now he just gets the shaft.

    I think everyone is nuts! Rachel will do an AWESOME job as Tamara. Sure, Gi Joe didnt pan out like they hoped but the casting was’nt bad at all. I thought it was rather good. Rachel is a very talented young actress, not to mention gorgeous and I have full faith that she will do a great job. Give it a chance for!! The movie is still a baby and people are already trashing it with a preconception of how they think it should be. How about you go out there, write it, cast it, direct it and we’ll sow hoe good it is.

    Ok.Someone lend me a camera, I’ll film the wholething in my back yard with the local jock as Conan and the nearest cheerleader as the leading lady.Then I’ll whip up some effects on my laptop using photoshop and have the whole thing out just in time for Christmas.

    @Chris
    We are not “trashing” it based on how we think it should be, rather on the omens on the horizon.

    * Millenium(AviLerner) – Known to push out cheap, low quality cash-ins, known to hire cast to bring in people, but not known for quality
    * Marcus Nispel – “Craftsmens” director that never delivered something that was more than “ok”. Known for has “fast shooting” and the “never look back approach”. Known for Pathfinder… nuff said
    * Donnelly/Oppenheimer – Known for cheap, low quality, bad pacing, bad storyline, horrible dialogue, through all their to-date projects. Known for Sahara.
    * Jason Momoa – Known to be a third rate cable actor (HE could surprise us all that’s really true)

    Some of us have read the script of this abomination. Nothing in this production points towards quality or even generally enjoyable fantasy movie. This production stinks of “Scorpion King” style, without having a charismatic lead like The Rock, to make it at least enjoyable. The script some of us have read is horrible. Bad, unimaginative storyline, badly written dialogue, bad pacing, horrible portrayal of the Conan character and STUPID ending. The fact, that some attack it because it has NOTHING to do with Robert E. Howards Conan is just the TIP of the iceberg.

    We have every reason to be concerned or even angry at this production at this point.

    Again , chris we all understand your point , but as i said to rabenwolf in a different post this is a crowd who is very knowledgeable on the subject matter and a group in which the majority has been let down by howard translations in the past ( unless you consider red sonja conan the destroyer and kull comedies) and as waldgeist just stated the stars are not lining up properly and and most of what we heard is being confirmed true. If there were writers here that had the opportunity, hell yeah I think they can do a better job .And yes it would be great if momoa surprised us but I dont think he can keep the script afloat. look at quantum of solace. like it or hate it ( most hated it) one thing people really didnt complain about was daniel craig’s performance. is momoa capable of carrying a 100mil plus movie?

    Well I just hope they keep the blind archer in this Gem, at this point really wouldent be complete without.

    Yeah Steve, I think your film will have greater inspiration than this heap. Great, now we have Subati in the guise of Marique…which by the way sucks as a name. Ohhh…I really hate to be a naysayer and grim heckler, but its all i can do to stop from tearing my monitor in half. I just don’t understand….you have loads of novels and material why on earth…why by God would someone say…hhmmm I have this iconic character thats been around since the Depression with all these stories to go along with this character…I have an amazing idea! Why don’t I scap ever bit of it, keep the name, and write a whole new story line?! Genius…yes, pure genius!!!
