Bob Sapp plays Ukafa in Conan Movie

Again Latinoreview reveals the casting results for another character in the upcoming Conan Movie. This time it’s Ukafa:

Ukafa is in his 30s-40, very dark-skinned African or African American, massively framed at six-foot-five, gold-toothed, hardened by a lifetime of war, a leader of Kushite Tribemen from the savannahs of Kush. Ukafa is Khalar Singh’s second in command, jealous that Singh’s son, Fariq, will one day be warlord. He obeys his leader but plots the overthrow of his son. He is a mighty warrior and unbeatable in battle—until he comes face to face with Conan.

It seems that Mixed Martial Arts fighter Bob Sapp will be filling the part of this villain character. At least the description fits him pretty well. And he has the wanted “gangsta” appeal too.

Since I absolutely hated the character description from the very first second I laid eyes on it, I personally couldn’t care less which actor is cast for bad gangsta dude with the golden tooth. It’s just a dissapointment, that all the rewriting could not smack some sense into the script and get rid of this over-the-top Bombatta copy.

One question … how Bob Sapp fits for movie and on the other side.. bodybuilder or wrestler Conan does not fit? How will the model look Jason Momoa to convincingly confront this monster? I would like someone explain this to me!

They said, they would not cast a wrestler for Conan :D … they never said, that they would not cast a wrestler for a supporting role.

But yeah, Jason Momoa will look quite small compared to Bob Sapp.

Maybe Woody Allen and Pee-Wee Herman could join forces and REALLY give Conan a hard time as he minces about the Hyborian Age wondering whether or not he should do an underwear catalogue shoot…

Perhaps the screenwriter could somewhere in the middle of the movie inserted a fashion show for lingerie…Nispel and Momoa could walk together and show the latest Conan hyborian underwear colection for Sumer 2011

Or maybe there can be a scene where Momo kills Ukafa by strangling him with his Calvin Kline underwear (They can name it Conan Kline).

wow this guy is big. they do this every time in these movies. they cast a guy( usually the boss’s right hand man) bigger and stronger than the hero so it actually seems like they have some real competition. he’s probably gonna die some ridiculous over the top, dramatic death to accentuate this. That said, I’m not gonna be overly critical about the rest of the casting. It doesnt really matter who’s who at this point, because conan is supposed to be the focal point and his story and as we’ve stated( in a variety of colorful ways)something is very wrong with what we’ve heard and read about it.

“croms, too sexy for this sword ,too sexy for this sword the way he’s disco dancing”….um yeah… any news on the kull remake? i thought i read somewhere that the writer had a script ” vastly different from the comic ” which means more garbage to me.

Visually, Bob Sapp belongs in a Conan movie. His nickname is the Beast and if you have seen him he gives off an uncivilized bestial aura we are familiar with from REH’s stories. From the time he steps into the ring until 30 seconds later when he’s on his stomach curled up like a turtle getting pounded in the head and the ref stops the fight, he is a carnal monster from a more primitive age. He’s also dark enough to seem like he could be from Kush. This is actually a good casting choice.

Jason Momoa is a male model crossing over into acting. If you look at him you can see he spent a lot of time developing his chest and abs and nothing else, like most male models. Even after 6 weeks with a great trainer and X amount of muscle added, his arms, legs, shoulders and back are still going to be like an average man’s, or slightly bigger/stronger than average at best. He’s also got a lanky frame. What depiction of Conan in existence in any media format even remotely resembles Jason Momoa (putting racial differences aside)?

Mickey Rourke is acceptable as Conan’s father but somebody grittier like Sven Thorsen would be a much better choice (and also a nod to the previous films).

Like somebody said, this movie is on track to make Scorpion King look like Braveheart.

This film will have way to many nod’s to the previous films iam afraid. Hope it go’s directly to DVD.

    Whats gonna happen:
First Momoa will be thrown around by this guy Bob Sapp, who I bet can’t act at all, and then Conan, in his Calvin Klein undees, will have to fight more and more huge UFC monkeys until he eventually has to strap these elephant tusks to his elbows and somehow starts slicing their tendons and they do these really crappy freeze motion falls. (Here is a pley by play http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPDc7bOK0_s&feature=related )
The after he will punch the camel the bad boss is trying to escape on and then pose him to death with various underwear.

    FML!

I dont know the first thing about Sapp, but I know Conan fights some really big guys (like Baal-pteor in “shadows in Zamboula”, much bigger than Conan).
Besides, a young Conan is obviously a great fighter and “well built”, but if you read f.ex “The god in the bowl”, The guards are hardly intimidated of Conan until he cut a few of them down; they see him as a common thief to young and cocky to be taken seriously.
And even if Momo is not the best choise for conan, he is not lanky.

nah, in all honesty casting this guy isnt really a big deal, like i said conan’s gonna need threatening competition. actually i dont think any of the casting aside from conan himself a real issue, except with how it relates to the story. example is mickey rourke , fine he’s in it, he’s a good actor and hes a fairly big strong guy but why does conans papa have even be in this at all? Maybe he would have made a better villan or ally to conan not his dad. This whole” we need an origin tale to establish the character for future movies” nonsense really annoys me …it really annoys me. we never had to meet rambo’s mommy or daddy or007′s why the hell do we keep going back there with conan? The calvin klein stuff is cracking me up though.

Hail heathen warriors.Went into London yesterday and was greeted by the sight of old blighty double decker buses advertising Solomon Kane. Its showing in the West end and yes i was tempted to go running in.Unfortunately i had my girlfriend in tow so that put the dampers on that idea, but i did pick up the movie novelization written by Ramsey Campbell from Forbidden Planet. It was signed by both James Purefoy and that director bloke.Let you know whether it was worth getting excited about when ive read it.
M’s observation on annoying film set up plot devices is spot on.A good movie should not have to be a commercial vehicle for a damn marketing campaign.I guaruntee this wont warrant a sequel. Why don’t they just take a chance on some good old fashioned storytelling and characterization for a change?

    @Steve

Most of the guys from the REH forum went with their girls and said that they thoroughly enjoyed the movie, both of them. So grab your girl and go see the movie :)

Yeah no doubt! In fact they should just go and get the rest of the Twilight cast and make it official! Opening day should be during summer vacation so the teenage girls can make the early showing!

read a bit in the ny post today about an article that at some party momoa upstaged gerard butler with the ladies. It was a small bit and it mentions momoa starring in the conan the barbarian “remake” …and the lameness continues…

Jay,as he’s better known to his homies, was no doubt impressing them with his fur trimmed loin cloth specially designed by Calvin Klein.Over on the reh.upa web site Solomon Kane gets torn apart by Richard Toogood, a name I recognize from the good old days of Savage sword when that comic was good.He was savagely critical then but like most detailed opinions on this site his points had a lot of validity…

    German to English

So you know not what ye will, ye only complains that it should be nich again a bodybuilder, and now when they take someone who can really acting isses you are still not right, nich understand me wrong, I like the pretty boy Momoa but not necessarily, but I tell myself also, erstmal wait ausschaut like the finished movie and then you can indeed still complain.;)

Sorry, I hope this is nich bad or anything like that I’m a grad written in German, had grad keine lust all translate.:)

all kidding aside,:) I am embarrassed to say i’m not as computer saavy as I should be ian. Thank you for translating and I do understand rabenwolfs point , ultimately we do all have to wait. I disagree about momoas acting to a degree( from what I’ve seen on stargate on youtube,I liked the old movie never watched the show until now). He’s good for what the show calls for I don’t know if he can carry a movie. As far as the negative reaction to all the news, this is a knowledgeable crowd that has been let down by movies based on howard in the past and thats why whenever news comes out , it doesnt seem that good. And it’s plain fun anyway.
