i too, dread a martial arts &*%#fest and the 3-d rumor ( hopefully just that) convinces me more of two things: one they think momoa is gonna pull some kind of daniel craig and surprise every one 2) to the point that they think fans won't notice whats going on has less to do with conan than it does to do with meeting peoples perceptions of what conans world looked like.Wouldn't it be funny if all of this is misinformation and they actually are making a movie that's loyal to subject? I have to say, I have had zero desire to see avatar, I dont feel james cameron has made a decent movie since t2.

From start to finish i thought Avatar was a gimmick movie, lacking any characterization and real story.Sure it was nice to look at-Micheal Whelan's artwork on the covers of Burroughs' Barsoom novels back in the 80s must have played a major influence-but beyond the overblown effects and 3D gimmickery i was left nonplussed.Making Conan a 3D experience wont be viable for the dvd/blu ray market which i'm damn sure Lionsgate/Nu Image Millenium/Paradox/L.Sprague de Camp estate have a beady eye on.
As for Conan kung-fu-ing,i can see it judging by the casting here.Maybe our hot bladed young warrior will get an old blind eastern mentor.A CGI David Carradine could pop up to help out.Sorry,i have no faith in this movie.Every time i write a stupid idea i think-Damn!I bet this is exactly what they'll do!
Personally if they are going to involve a kid then i would like to see the sack of Venarium which could then set the stage for the rest of the story, playing with Howard's themes of barbarism and civilization. As a side note i live just down the road from the real Venarium or Veralanium as it was better known in Roman times. Some of the old ruins are still there and it is still a thriving beautiful little town.I go busking there on occasion.Anyone out there know what its called today? An interesting clue, its said that Queen Boudicca made her last stand there against the dreaded iron Roman legions.

It is not being shot in 3D. There are very good reasons to have 3D CGI technology in the making of 2D movies other than to render the movie in 3D.

I really hope they ditch the 3D idea. Sure, it may make a great cinematic experience (if you are not one of the many who suffer headaches watching 3D), but what happens after the cinema release? Those who love the film will buy it on DVD and the experience will not be the same (just watch The Final Destination at home, everyone is green!).

"or it is turned into a gimmick by the “mainstream” intentions of managers (aka things attacking the camera constantly)." - I couldnt agree more. Things like this spoil the movie completley. Conan fans have waited a long time for this to be made, and the fans are nervous enough without adding gimmick's like this.

I for one do not want to be sat at home wearing silly glasses to enjoy a movie. I dont need fancy graphics to become involved in a movie. I need a good story, with well choreographed fight scenes that do not move so fast or blurry you cannot see the action (which has occured in the middle of Solomon Kane). That is enough to pull me in.

Lets hope they make a good decision, and give us a great movie!

I'd like to state that besides the mixed news we've been getting this blog has been great and it's a pleasure to read and write to everyone here, I never do this stuff because of some of the things people write on other spots are beyond my comprehension, but howard fans are definitely a sharp bunch and really know their stuff without being pretentious .
