Will Arnold Schwarzenegger play a part in the upcoming Conan Movie?

The Boyana Movie Center wrote a letter to the Mayor of Pernik, to ask him for the permission to use the underground mine museum of Pernik as a movie set piece for the upcoming Conan Movie. In said letter they also mention to the mayor, that Arnold Schwarzenegger, the present mayor of California, would play a main part in the movie.

Since Avi Lerner stated a while ago, that he would try to get Arnold to play a cameo or a part in the movie, it doesn’t sound that implausible that this rumour can turn out to be true in the end. Arnold’s political term ends in 2009, so he would have the time to join the film production in 2010. As recent paparazzi photographs have shown Arnold would clearly not be in the shape to play a bare chested Conan, but maybe they are aiming for the part of his father, to literally “hand over the torch” to a younger actor portraying Conan.

I am not quite sure if this would be a good thing or a bad thing. It certainly would pull attention to the project, that is absolutely worth the “million” that Lerner wanted to offer Arnold to get him on board, but it would also mean the producers really aim to make a bond between Conan the Barbarian and the reboot of the franchise in this project.

UPDATE

As Gonar in the comments pointed out, Schwarzeneggers term as governator will not expire until 2011, so it’s less likely he will play a main part in the movie, because his everyday job clearly does not allow him to be away for several weeks of shooting a movie.

    Arnold should have a cameo in the upcoming movie.

    Arnie isn’t Conan. The makers stated they would have to take some liberties to appeal to a wider audience. I’d bet that this is one of their concessions, or “liberties’. I’d rather a reboot so clean that we forget that horrible 80′s movie was ever made.

    But I get it. There’s a bunch of people out there who never knew Conan existed before the movie and now associate Arnie with it.

    For those, listen: I know you like or love the movie. But Arnie did not come close to portraying Conan. I like Arnold, don’t get me wrong. But he can barely be called an actor of with any skill even now after all these years. But particularly back then, he couldn’t act.

    Now this Conan character is of course, fictional. But one can’t just throw all of what made the fictional character so beloved out the window and still have the name as Conan. If they did, just rename the character.

    1. Conan was smart: Arnie and the script did not portray that.

    2. Conan was surprisingly articulate: Arnie did not portray that. The movie-makers wisely gave him few lines so as to hide his lack of acting skills.

    3. Conan was famously callous and stubborn. Arnie did not portray that. Remember when he was on Thulsa’s steps, bloodied? They stepped on his hand to get an answer from him and he screams in pain and even cries. THAT is not Conan, and if Arnie would have been a better actor and studied the source material to understand Conan he would have known not to howl like a girl. Conan would not show pain. He would pass out first. There is precedent for this. Ya know, the Spartans trained their warriors from childhood to adult. One contest (to toughen them up) was to tie a bunch of the ten and eleven year old trainees to poles. Men would lash them with whips to see who could stay silent the longest and not pass out. Whoever did won. And the Spartans were REAL, not fictional.

    I could go on, but if they use Arnie I just really hope the cameo is as quick as Ferrigno in the Hulk.

    Sounds like they are trying to leverage star power by making the mayor think he’s going to meet Arnold.

    arnold isnt playing in the new conan,thats for sure,its some austrian guy,forgot the name,looks like arnold tho,same brick

    Is Arnie also said to appear in Stallones “Expendables”? and isn’t suppose to happen when he is govenator?

    Sorry, after just reading my post. it didn’t say what I wanted it to so this is me trying to ask it correctly :) . I believe they are filming expendables now and I believe Arnie himself said he was doing something on that movie. So couldn’t he still be capable of making an appearance on Conan?

    My opiniioon, they should finish the old story out. At the end of the first two they are aklways talking about how he eventually becomes king by his own hand, but tht is another story. They should do that story, that way asrnold can come back but he is older now cause he is now king, he should play a big part, but i feel he shud have a son who is the main character. i would pay to see the story finished, and from that a new line of films may come out about his son. snd my opinion arnold is a grweat actyor, i dont knw the real conan, but who cares, he played the part the way he felt it shud be played and i thought he did a great job. conan the barbarien sounds like a great big kinda dumb brute. but honorable. watch conan the barbarien aGAIN, HIS AXTING IS PERFECT. THRWO AWAY WHAT U KNW ABOUT CONAN IN SOME COMIC BOOK, AND SEE THE WAY HE PLAYS HIM. LIKE WHEN HE’S IN THE CAGE WITH HIS FIRST WOMAN, HE ACTS JUST LIKE AN ANIMAL, WHICH IS PRETTY MUCH WHAT HIS INTINCTS ARE TOWARDS A WOMAN BECAUSE HE HAD NEVER EVERN SEEN ONE BEFORE.
