Conan Director – Marcus Nispel?

It seems Dirk Blackwell wasn’t just blowing smoke.  According to CHUD.com writer, Devin Faraci, director Marcus Nispel (“Texas Chainsaw Massacre”) has been chosen to helm the new Conan film. Faraci boasted that his source is impeccable.

Nispel also directed the Vikings vs. Native Americans film, “Pathfinder,” which was received with decidedly mixed reactions from critics and fans.  According to CHUD, the producers are now looking for an unknown actor to take on the role of the Big Cimmerian.

As of now, production is scheduled to begin in late Summer, but quite a few film insiders are skeptical that the film can get off the runway that soon.  Nispel had announced plans to direct a Dracula film, but if this report is accurate that film will be put on the back burner.

    Well… i honestly did not expect of Millenium to pick someone who has skill, because they did not pick someone with skill or a remotely good track record for the screenplay, so they just keep in line with their previous errors and will most likely screw up the film big time… and kill the Conan franchise on the big screen for good.

    I will still go into the Cinema, because i also played the bad THQ Conan game… i guess i am a hopeless fanboi *sigh*

    I dont know why they wave Conan aside like a cheap “medieval hero”. They seem to have no clue about the stories and the character itself. It really is sad.

    Don’t fret Waldqeist its us “Fanboys” that keeps the franchise alive. Myself, I wouldn’t be too disappointed if I didn’t see Pathfinder. It is weird that I was reminded more of Conan when I watched his TCM remake then Pathfinder. The reason is that there where some images in the film that reminded me of a Frazetta painting. I think it’s the reason that made me see Pathfinder.

    I hate Pathfinder with a passion. I am very tolerant towards movies, but Pathfinder was so bad and annoying that its one of those movies where i wanted my two hours of lifetime back after watching it, seriously.

    And i can watch Uwe Boll movies and enjoy them…somehow… go figure :D

    I’m going to make a prediction… Since Andrew Bryniarski was already in a few of Nispel’s movies and his name was dropped a few times on the interweb I am going to say that he will be the new Conan. Not a wish just a prediction.

    What I didn’t like about Pathfinder:
    1. The Vikings were armored up like Orcs.

    2. They killed and burned BEFORE they pillaged and raped. I guess that’s in the Orcish tradition, but certainly not the Vikings.

    Is this the level of research and authenticity we can expect from Nispel?

    I liked Pathfinder. The Vikings were alot like the Nordic races in Conan, Not the Vikings of history! This alone makes the director and production co. great picks for the film.
    The synopsis starts out right, but alters the REH time line. I have read a few good altered time lines, so this still has merit.
    I don’t know anything about the actor, but if he atlest looks the part, thats better then Arnold. i just hope he has read REH Conan and does not try to be Arnold.
    If the characters are done right, the locations are good, and the costumes are done right(not to much clothing!), then we have the makings of a great epic.
